I'm a native SF'er, and have eaten and HON for years upon years. No, it's not authentic or traditional. The service is often atrocious. It survives because it's tasty, quick, and it has a certain appeal to it that's hard to pin down--sort of like most of chinatown. Go without expectations or attitude about what you think real chinese should be, and you'll enjoy everything. Go with a stick up your butt, and you'll be miserable.
